With food prices on the rise and waste becoming more and more common, it can be intimidating for college students to navigate the cooking world. However, learning to cook in college does not mean that you have to spend hundreds of dollars on groceries and then waste the food you don't eat. In fact, there is a way to reuse food in a way to keep yourself sane. Follow along in this blog to learn how to shop cheaper food and reuse it to make the most of your money and time!
Reusing Food

Reusing food can be tricky because any normal person will be sick of eating the same food for more than two days in a row. However, if you strategically plan the food you cook in bulk, you can change it up with each meal so that if tastes different each time you eat! An example of this is cooking a couple of chicken breasts with minimal seasoning on a night when you have a lot of time. For the next three to four nights you can eat this chicken shredded in a taco, in pasta sauce, in salad, and on a sandwich.
With this method, you can eat the same chicken for several nights in a row and just mix in it with different entrees and sides to mix up your meals. A link for crockpot shredded chicken is here.
Meal Prepping

Meal prepping is another easy way for students to save both money and time when it comes to cooking in college. With meal prepping you can plan for the week and then just eat the food that you have already planned and cooked which helps make your life easier. Using containers like these can help you save fridge space because they are portioned, thin, and stackable.
Meal prepping containers are nice because they will stack together in the fridge and are microwavable. They are usually also the perfect size for a one portion meal. This helps you portion your meals correctly so that you aren't wasting any food. Special containers also keep the meals fresh for several days. Meal prepping is a great way for college students to cook and eat in the most time conscious way.
